A Diploma in Apparel Design and Fabrication Technology (ADFT) is a technical and creative diploma program focused on fashion design, garment construction, textile knowledge, pattern making, apparel production, and fashion merchandising. It prepares students for careers in the clothing and fashion industry by combining design skills with manufacturing and production techniques.

Typical subjects include:

  • Fashion illustration and sketching

  • Textile science and fabric studies

  • Pattern making and garment construction

  • Apparel production technology

  • Computer-aided fashion design (CAD)

  • Fashion merchandising and marketing

  • Quality control in garment manufacturing

  • Sewing techniques and garment finishing

  • Entrepreneurship in fashion and apparel

Duration

  • Usually 3 years after completing 10th grade (in many polytechnic institutes in India).

  • Some institutions may offer lateral entry options for eligible students.

 

Eligibility 

  • Pass in 10th Standard (SSLC/Matriculation) from a recognized board.

  • Many polytechnic colleges require at least 35% aggregate marks, particularly in Mathematics, Science, and English.
  • The course duration is generally 3 years after 10th.

  • 10th Pass → You are generally eligible to apply.
  • 12th Pass → You are also eligible and may have additional higher-study options later.
